Speaker 1:

God is good.

Speaker 2:

Yes, he is what would we do without Him?

Speaker 1:

I don't know, I don't know, he come to me last night and just filled me with his love and his mercy and his forgiveness and all the goodness of God. Just kind of came to me last night. That's awesome, I'm so glad. Yes, me too.

Speaker 2:

Well, today in Bible Talk we're going to talk about fear, A little bit of faith, but we're going to talk about fear. My verse today is in 2 Timothy 1, verse 7. It says, and the word says For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Amen. You know, I try to. I can never remember that. I can never remember that verse. When I need it, I have to go hunting for it, Isn't?

Speaker 1:

that sad.

Speaker 2:

That's the enemy right there. Anyway. So you know, we think about stuff especially like, right now, hurricanes and the economy and the election, wars and rumors of wars, I mean just, and the list goes on and on and on.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

You know, and all we have to do really is turn on the TV and we'll find a hundred reasons to be afraid of things.

Speaker 1:

It is getting worse. It is. I mean. You just look at the weather patterns they're increasing. You know the Bible talks about. You know there's going to be birth pains, especially during these last days.

Speaker 2:

Right, Right and now it's just pretty self-explanatory. Right Today we're going to talk about fear, and I think everybody struggles with fear from time to time. I know I do quite often, more than time to time. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

I didn't realize how much I struggled with fear until I come back to the Lord, and that was one of the very first things that the Lord dealt with me.

Speaker 2:

He's like we've got to take care of this fear first, and it's hard. It's hard not to be, but I was a scaredy-cat kid. I was fearful of things when I was young.

Speaker 1:

Well, you know what the Lord has taught me these last few years on fear. There's two different types of fear. One of them is the fear of man, or fear of this world, or sin itself, right, and then there's the fear of God.

Speaker 2:

Right, which we're supposed to have. Yes, yeah, but it's just like I said, I was a very fearful kid. As a young kid I was fearful. I want to tell you this little story. My grandmother when I was little she wouldn't hardly, I mean, I couldn't go outside unless I had a t-shirt on or a coat or whatever. It's just how she was. But anyway, we lived up here in Caywood and I could stand out in front of my grandmother's house and look up the road and see the store. It was Joe Bill Carter's store, John.

Speaker 2:

Carter's dad it was Joe Bill Carter's store, right, john Carter's dad. It was their store, I think, and so I always wanted to walk to that store by myself. I always had to wait on my uncle to take us, right. But one day my grandmother said you can walk to the store by yourself, and I was probably eight, nine years old, but I'm ready, I'm ready to hoof it up there by myself. That was my biggest thing, was I was wanting to walk to that store by myself like a big girl. Nobody couldn't say nothing. I was ready to go. So my grandmother says, okay, go, because she could stand really in the yard and watch me. She let me walk. And here I go, triumphing up the railroad tracks, you know, to John Carter's store, and I had to cross a road to get there. I'm standing on the side of the road and coming down beside of his store.

Speaker 2:

There was a little bitty road coming off of what we call in Kaywood as the back road and my cousin Patty I believe it was her name, she was a cousin of mine she come waltzing down the back road and down the little road beside of John Carter's store or Joe Bill Carter's store, and I look over there and all of a sudden she just passed out. She fainted man, and it wasn't even me. But if that didn't scare the heck out of me, man, I didn't even get to enjoy. I ran all the way home back down the road. It scared me. So to see her. She just fell over in the road and just passed out and that scared me. So it scared me right out of having my little old first little jaunt to the store by myself. I ran all the way home. I still don't know why it scared me so bad I'd never seen anything like that, I guess I don't know.

Speaker 2:

But right anyway, and you know, the thing about it is is james is the most frequent command in the whole bible is don't fear. You know, god told us over 300 and something times in the bible he tells us not to be afraid and if you think about it, that's just about a daily reminder saying don't fear. Right, you know. But there's a lot of times you know that God must have knew we were going to have a problem with fear, because it's what he told us in his word. Every other. All the time he's saying don't fear.

Speaker 1:

Well, I don't know if you realize, but Adam and Eve they feared God once they sinned.

Speaker 2:

Right, what did they do? I just got through talking about some of that, well, reading some of that. What did?

Speaker 1:

they go? Do they go hide? They go hide. They didn't go to God directly, so God had to come to them directly.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And that's what sin does to us. It tears down our true identity of who we are. It tears down everything that you know, far as like it disrupts the true meaning of what we are in God. You know so like we can go to God anytime we want to Right. You know, we just and we can say Lord, what if it had been different? What if they had went to God? Say God, I'm sorry, instead of God, come to them.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

Would it had been different if they said Lord, I sin, instead of having God come to them and saying you know, what have you done? Right you know and the truth's the truth.

Speaker 2:

Right done, right, you know, and that the truth's the truth. Right, but you know, I I believe right now that fear is robbing us of some of the greatest blessings from the lord yes you know, and I'm telling you until we can overcome that, uh, fear is a powerful emotion, you know.

Speaker 2:

It's our, our flight or fight response, I guess is what you would call it, and it reveals itself in the form of worry and concern and nervousness and anxiety, and I have probably suffered from all of those at one point in time, probably one point in time, all of them in one day.

Speaker 2:

But that's just how the enemy, you know he, does this. I mean, I'm going to tell you what, in my home, at night it's not as much anymore because I use the name of Jesus and I use my Bible, but used to there for a while, brother, every time the sun would go down and it would get dark outside, he would startle me and the enemy would make me feel like I couldn't breathe and he would tell me I'm going to have a heart attack. He would tell me I was going to die. They were going to find me in my house dead the next morning. He even went as far to tell me you're going to die in your sleep tonight and when they come to try to wake you up, your dog, they're going to shoot your dog because he's going to bark. I mean, just I mean he tormented me.

Speaker 2:

He tormented me over fear, and so, with fear, and so I would have to, and I still do it today. I still sleep with my Bible on me, near me somewhere. There's times that I'll feel it in my sleep at night, or I'll wake up and I'll fear. I'll feel that fear coming on and I'll just hug my Bible up to me and I just call on the name of Jesus. I've had to do that a lot.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean. I totally agree with you that. You know this fear engulfs you. You know that's what hell is, right? You know we're getting a taste of what hell is was when that fear comes upon us, right? I don't want it.

Speaker 2:

I don't either.

Speaker 1:

You imagine being in hell. That constantly upon you, I know oh.

Speaker 2:

Fear occupies our minds. It's unhealthy.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

I mean, it distracts us and it robs us of our life and it robs us, like I said, of some of the greatest blessings of God's kingdom. And I read this thing somewhere and I think this is so awesome and I think this needs to be on a T-shirt. I read this thing somewhere and it said talking about it robbing us of the blessings of God's kingdom. I read somewhere and it said it's Robinus of the Blessings of God's Kingdom. I read somewhere and it said it's hard to stop and smell the roses when all you can think about is getting pricked by the thorns. And that's right. I mean, how can we concentrate on blessings from the Lord, how can we concentrate and seek God's kingdom and His righteousness if we're just bogged down with fear? Right, you know, I read this thing in the book of Numbers. It's talking about the Israel, the children of Israel, and in Numbers 6 and 24, we see that God promises them, he blesses them. He says the Lord bless thee and keep thee. The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, and the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace. So he's blessing the children of Israel, right? And so we read on down in Numbers 13,. God says okay, I'm giving you guys this promised land. Just come and get it. It's yours, I'm giving it to you, you know, just come and get it. Well, the Lord tells Moses I don't know if you've read that or not, but the Lord tells Moses I want you to send some men out to explore the land of Cana that I'm giving the children of Israel. He said I want one man from each tribe to go. And so all these men set out, and they're with I think Joshua and Caleb, maybe. I think Joshua and Caleb maybe. And they set out and they take off. And you see, the Israelites were so consumed with fear All they did was grumbled and griped the whole time. They used that to cover up their fear. I guess they didn't believe God, they didn't trust God, they were scared, they were afraid God's saying hey, I'm giving you all this, come and get it, come and get it, it's right here. But see, they didn't. Instead of trusting God and moving on and claiming the blessings that God had to give them, they just complained about it. Right? God told them take the promised land, I'm giving it to you. And they come up with a million reasons why they couldn't. And so we go on up in the chapter and we read this these men come back that Moses sent out. They were gone about 40 days, I think the word says. And they came back and they had a good report to give about the promised land. Yeah, it's nice, it is the land of milk and honey, and they even brought some fruit to show.

Speaker 2:

But there was also naysayers in the group, and so these people are saying, hey, you know what? These people that live there, they're powerful, the cities are large, they're walled. You know, some of the men that were with Caleb were saying, hey, you know, we can't attack these people. They're stronger than us, they're bigger than us. I mean, only Joshua and Caleb had this. You know what? Let's go get this attitude. They had this. We got God with us. Joshua's like hey, we got the Lord with us. Why are we fearing, according to what I've read, the people in the midst, the children of Israel, while they were so upset about it and so fearful they wanted to stone Caleb and Josh over it.

Speaker 2:

But they tried to tell the Israelites let's don't fear, because we got God. See, they had this. We can't attitude.

Speaker 1:

But see with God.

Speaker 2:

Romans 8 and 28 tells us. He says and we know that all things work together for the good for those that love the Lord and those who are called according to his purpose. Right, I mean, look at the promises that he gives us man. You know, with God there is no we can't or I can't attitude. You know what I'm saying? That's right.

Speaker 2:

You know, god even questioned Moses. He asked Moses. He said you know, why are these people so afraid? Why are they so afraid of all the miracles that I performed? Why do they still not trust me?

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

And brother. I bring this up because the moral of this story is you know what, if we don't move away from our fear and move over into just a little bit of faith in God, he's going to give our blessings to someone else. That's what he done with them. You know the first generation of the children of Israel. They were supposed to have got that land of milk and honey.

Speaker 1:

That's right, it was.

Speaker 2:

They didn't. They were so fearful, you know, and so it was the second generation, with Joshua and Caleb, that really got the land the broken honey. I mean fear blinded them. They didn't trust the Lord. But I tell you, friends, that can happen to us. If we do not put our trust in the Lord, he can take our blessings and give them to somebody else.

Speaker 1:

Yes, he can.

Speaker 2:

Brother, what do you think Him to know it to do you think I mean?

Speaker 1:

him to know it, to do good and do it. That not to him, it is a sin. I mean to stay in a fearful state. I'd be truthful. I know this is hard to say, but you know that you are sinning. Right. How small it is or what it's sin, is sin.

Speaker 2:

It is, it is I mean that is a hard pill to swallow and I don't maybe some people don't think of it that it's a sin right I mean, I don't know if they don't think of it like that, or I don't think people do you know because you know I I've dealt with my fear my whole life.

Speaker 1:

You know, uh, fearful of uh people coming in and you know disrupting. You know, uh, fearful of uh people coming in and you know disrupting. You know my family home. You know, like I've testified on the show before, you know I don't want to go into great detail, but you know, uh, I fear people coming in and killing us. You know, because we ran from some pretty, you know awful people. You know, running from things I just really bad life, you know, and then it plays a big part of you know and it makes you worry about everything. And then you know, and then I worked at a, at a jail. You know you're always worried and fearful. You know you're always worried and fearful, you know, if you walk into a cell. You know. I know this is a small little town, but the truth's the truth it can happen anywhere it can.

Speaker 1:

You know, you know, I've I've had a knife pulled out on me. I've been bit, you know I, you know, and I've had to go to the doctor and get, you know, a thousand shots, you know, because you don't know what you got if you're gonna die. I've had my family threatened.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

You know I created enemies while I was there. The truth's the truth, or you know the enemy, just they didn't like me.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

Because I wore a badge Right.

Speaker 2:

But you know, brother, we're never going to inherit the blessings of God with the spirit of fear. No, we're not. And you know, brother, we're never going to inherit the blessings of God with a spirit of fear. No, we're not, and you know, fear, it limits us.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Fear says hey, you know well what if. Fear asks the question what if, what if? But see faith. When we get faith, faith says hey, even if.

Speaker 1:

Doesn't matter if Well, faith is the product of God's fear. You know that's the healthy part of fear. You know taking reverence. You know that's just that's what it is.

Speaker 2:

Right. See, god wants us to set our hearts and our minds on heavenly things, yes, where Christ sits, seated on his right hand of God. God wants us to set our hearts and minds on things like that. And how? If we ever aim to get to those heights, brother, we have to put our trust in God. We have to put our trust in God, we have to put our trust in him, and we're not going to get any further. You know, I'm telling you, we're going to be just like the Israelites and we're going to lose out on their blessings. And just like that, if we don't put our fear aside and put our faith in God, then we're going to live our last days roaming through the desert while the other people inherit our blessings. I don't want to roam through. I don't either. I was just the truth. I don't either. Friends, I'm telling you, you gotta trust in god. If you don't trust in god, who will you trust?

Speaker 1:

you know, with god's grace and mercy, he's, he's, he forgives and he, he forgives us well he, he constantly telling, like you said he's telling the children of Israel I'll supply all of your needs. All you have to do is just walk and follow me.

Speaker 2:

That's it.

Speaker 1:

What do they do? No Right.

Speaker 2:

And you know the thing about this, the good thing about it is, even though the Hebrew children or the Israel children, children of Israel, even though you know, despite their sin, you know God forgave them of their sin.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

And they still remained His chosen people right up to today, right, but despite their being forgiven, the first generation still didn't get to see the promised land.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

See, a lot of people have been forgiven, but they let their fear rob them of the richest blessings from God.

Speaker 1:

Right See fear doubts God of the richest blessings from God.

Speaker 2:

See, fear doubts God's blessings. Fear doubts it. Faith celebrates it, you know, with God, faith says that with God, all things are possible. Faith says that with God you can. You can do this.

Speaker 2:

And, people, we need to walk by faith and not by sight. If we let fear rob us of our faith, we let it rob us of our promised land. You know what I mean. Right? I believe that turning our fears over to Jesus is the best way to ever over-become our fears. I know, right now, around us, the world's a scary place. There's a lot of crazy things going on around us right now that we just probably will never understand.

Speaker 2:

But see, god told us in Romans 8 and 39, he said Nor height nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God. Friends, that's a promise right there. See, with God is our refuge and in him we have nothing to fear. You know, and today, if you trust in the Lord, he'll deliver you from all your fears. The Bible says in Isaiah 41 and 10, he says Fear not, for I am with you. He says he's with us everywhere we go. He's actually there. Before we get there, he's already there taking care of things. So why would we fear? Why would we fear Friends? In the Scripture Isaiah 41 and 10, god promises those three things. Those three I will statements. When we're fearful, we can be encouraged that all we've got to do is call upon Him. The first one he promises. He said I will help you. We have to depend on God to help us in our time of need.

Speaker 2:

We have to call on him In the book of Chronicles 2, chronicles 20, jerusalem was surrounded by her enemies, all the way around, surrounded King Jehoshaphat. He was scared, he was fearful. He was fearful, he felt powerless. You know, he called out to the Lord. He turned to God and he says Lord, you know what? What can we do here? You know we're against the law. I'm paraphrasing him, of course.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

But he's saying hey, you know what we're fearful here, we need help here. You and you know what God answered his prayers. He answered his prayers and Jerusalem was victorious. So see, when you're fearful, all you have to do is admit your fears to God. Admit your fears. You know. I don't know what to do, lord, I don't know what to do, but I'm fearful. I'm without a choice, I don't know which way to turn. But, god, my eyes are on you and that's what he wants us to do is turn our fears over to him.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know. You know, last night I was telling her before we started, you know, recording the show. You know, god come to me because I feared. I know, you know what would happen if I die in my sins or if I. You know I die in my afflictions because you know I didn't want to Right. You know I die in my afflictions because you know I didn't want to Right. You know, and God delivered me something that I've been afflicted with for over 40 plus years. Wow, if I had, you know, died in a sin, then you know, it's for me to confess this, you know, to you guys. You know, just to let you know that. You know, I'm human. I'm not perfect.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

You know, and God come by in a mighty, mighty way. Last night that's awesome. And he touched me and I knew that if I had died, you know, and I would have died in my sins, I would have died in that affliction that I've been battling with for 40 plus years.

Speaker 1:

Right, right, praise the Lord I mean I try to make this podcast or you know, any of the shows that I do as real as possible to let you folks know that. You know that there's people out there that deal with it just like you do, right.

Speaker 2:

Right, right. And you know that second promise he told us, brother, he says when he'll strengthen us. You know, when we're overcome with fear, when we were overcome with fear, it makes us weak.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

You know, and we had to call out to God and he'll strengthen us. Yes, he says, I'll hold you up with my righteous right hand. God promised to hold us up, never to let us go. He'll never lose his grip, he'll never relax his grip. If you fall away from the Lord, you fall away. It's not God's fault.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

You let go, because he'll never let us down. Nope, friends. God does not want his children to live a fearful and defeated life.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

He wants us to live victorious in him and defeated life Right. He wants us to live victorious in him and if you're experiencing that today, that fear today, acknowledge it to God. He's the one who cares. He cares. He made you, he created you. Yes, he did Cry out to him. Ask him to fill your heart with his presence. Surrender completely only to God. Amen you can't surrender to our fear. Because there was a point in time in my living room, sitting in my recliner, I felt like I was surrendering to my fear.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

And I'd call out more, I would scream out the name, I'd rebuke Satan in the name of Jesus Christ. But see, when we know God's with us and we feel him with us, we can overcome our fear. Right, god didn't give us fear. He gave us a way to overcome it. We need to overcome the spirit of fear with the power of God, the love of God and a renewed mind that resists the spirit of fear. You know, when you turn that spirit of fear over to the Lord, you know you can overcome anything. You know you have the power of the Holy Spirit. You can overcome the spirit with. Just use Jesus' name. He says it Listen, friends, one day we're going to have peace and one day we're not going to have to worry about nothing.

Speaker 2:

We're never going to have another fear. We're not going to have no sin, no pain, no death, no crying. We're not going to have none of that stuff. And that day is going to come when the Lord comes and gets us all. But in the meantime, we can't let fear hold us back from our blessings. We have to trust in God.

Speaker 1:

Yes, we do.

Speaker 2:

You know. If fear is a major battle in your life, ask God to help you. Ask God to help you. Take your eyes and your mind off your fear and ask him to help you see him as he really is. He is our awesome, powerful, faithful, loving Savior.

Speaker 1:

Amen.

Speaker 2:

And he's willing to help you. Just call out to him.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

You know, remember, fear's not from God. You said it, brother, a while ago Fear's from Satan. And we, as Christians, we can overcome fear and defeat Satan every time by trusting in God and trusting in his word, you know.

Speaker 1:

But to trust in God's word, you've got to be obedient, right, and that goes hand in hand. You just can't quote the scriptures, you can't just believe it. You've got to walk the walk, right, right.

Speaker 2:

You just can't quote the scriptures, you can't just believe it. You've got to walk. The walk, right, right, amen, brother. You know, in our lives we have to deal with fear. But the question is, how are we going to handle it? You know, we don't let fear rule us. Are we going to let faith overcome our fear?

Speaker 1:

Amen.

Speaker 2:

Ask yourself, ask yourself right now, wherever you're sitting, which is greater, your faith or your fear? I mean, think about it. You know, friends, I'm telling you, the Word of God says that if we confront Satan in the name of Jesus Christ, he'll free from us. He'll turn and he'll run. James 4 and 7.

Speaker 2:

Fear not, fear not is wrote all through the Bible. Jesus, when he revealed himself, he used that expression. Brother James, it was the first thing that the angels said when they brought a message to a person Fear not. When they come to Mary to tell her about what was getting ready to happen in her life, I'm sure she was afraid, but they told her fear not, you know. But fear has been a part of human existence since the fall of man in Genesis three. Like you say, you know, people, nothing's changed. But, friends, I'm telling you we need to. We know the end of the story, you know. We know that God wins. We know that we win. We know the final page of the story has already been written. Don't let the middle stuff bog you down. Don't let that middle stuff, that fear and anxiety, don't let it bog you down. We already know how this ends. Praise the Lord. Don't let the middle stuff get to you. Give it all to God, rejoice in the Lord and stand on his promises.

Speaker 1:

Amen.

Speaker 2:

Because we already know we are going to come out victorious.

Speaker 1:

That's right.

Speaker 2:

We know, brother, how the story ends. We can't give our life over to fear.

Speaker 1:

No, we can't.

Speaker 2:

Nobody out there. If you're hearing me today, don't let fear rob you of the blessings of the Lord.

Speaker 1:

It can drag you down.

Speaker 2:

All the way down.

Speaker 1:

It blinds you, it keeps you from seeing God's word, what he has for you. Right In Psalms 23, the Lord says you can eat from the master's table. Right, he's prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemies. Amen. And if you've got all that fear in you, how can you go up there and eat from the?

Speaker 2:

table that God has prepared for you. And you know, in today's society, brother, there's a suffix it's phobia, for every kind of fear known to man.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 1:

We got to get our game on.

Speaker 2:

That's it.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 2:
