Elora Middleton Testimony: God never abandoned me, even when I tried to abandon myself.
"The devil has been telling me I could kill myself since I was seven years old." With these haunting words, Elora Middleton begins her extraordinary testimony of survival, faith, and finding purpose through unimaginable pain. After losing her father to suicide as a child, Elora spent decades battling the same destructive thoughts, attempting to take her own life multiple times – even after becoming a mother. Yet something always stopped her.
What emerges from this raw conversation is a powerful story of divine intervention. Despite planning, preparing, and even attempting suicide on multiple occasions, Elora describes how God repeatedly prevented completion through unexpected circumstances or an unmistakable voice inside screaming "no." These weren't coincidences but evidence of God's unwavering presence even in her darkest moments.
Today, Elora manages a food pantry that distributes 600 boxes monthly throughout Harlan County, finding healing through helping others facing their own struggles. Her testimony illuminates how control became her coping mechanism after childhood chaos – creating mental checklists and trying to orchestrate every aspect of life until God gently taught her the freedom found in surrender.
Most powerfully, Elora speaks directly to listeners silently battling similar thoughts, emphasizing that having suicidal ideation doesn't make you less Christian or less loved by God. She creates a safe space for acknowledging these struggles without shame, offering hope that our deepest pain often becomes our most powerful ministry. For anyone walking through darkness, her message rings clear: God has not abandoned you, even when you've tried to abandon yourself.
If you're struggling with suicidal thoughts or know someone who is, please reach out. Your story isn't finished, and your pain can become purpose. Contact us through hor421ministries@gmail.com or call 239-849-1502.
