Reverend Jason Robert’s. Speaks on Faith That Heals: Finding Jesus in Your Darkest Moments

Host: JD. Episode 137

Send us a text

Faith blooms most powerfully when we've exhausted all other options. In this deeply moving episode, guest preacher Jason Roberts unpacks the story of the woman with the issue of blood from Luke 8 – a woman who spent everything she had seeking healing, only to find doctors couldn't help her. For twelve years, she lived as an outcast, considered "unclean" under Mosaic Law, unable to maintain normal relationships or participate in community life.

What makes her story so powerful isn't just her physical suffering but her spiritual boldness. Despite cultural taboos that should have kept her isolated, she pushed through crowds to touch Jesus' garment, believing this single point of contact would heal her. And it did – immediately.

Jason draws profound parallels between this woman's journey and our own struggles with feeling unworthy or beyond help. "When you're all out of options," he explains, "you are God's best candidate for a miracle." This truth resonates throughout the episode as Jason vulnerably shares his own testimony of returning to faith after twenty years away from God.

The most beautiful moment comes when Jesus addresses the healed woman as "daughter" – not as an unclean outcast but as family. This transformation of identity speaks to anyone who's ever felt defined by their problems rather than their potential.

If you're feeling that you've gone too far, done too much wrong, or that your situation is beyond hope, this message is especially for you. As Jason powerfully reminds us: You don't need to clean yourself up before coming to Jesus. He takes us exactly as we are and transforms us completely. Listen now and discover how your point of deepest desperation might be the doorway to your greatest miracle.

And he is going to be preaching the Word of God and I'm excited to hear what he's got to say. The mic's yours, it's hot.

Speaker 2:

Well, thank you, brother James. First I want to say it is an honor and a privilege to be on your show today. I've been very excited since the invitation came out, just been thankful for the invite. Also, you've been such a blessing to us here at the Cablewood Church of God man. You've been really a godsend, you know. You've blessed us with your music and then you do this ministry on the side here and I've listened to some past programs on my way to work of the mornings and it's just so uplifting and encouraging what you do and I'm excited and very thankful to be here today as well.

Speaker 2:

But, I'll get right into the word that I've got for you today. It's found in three of the four Gospels and I'm going to try to make it a condensed version and we'll go to Luke 8. I'm going to be speaking briefly on the woman with the issue of blood, luke 8, verse 43,. It starts out by saying and a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians neither could be healed of any, came behind him, which is Jesus, and touched the border of his garment and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said who touched me? When all denied Peter and they that were with him said Master, the multitude thronged thee and pressed thee and sayest thou who touched me? And Jesus said Somebody has touched me, for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling and falling down before him. She declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. And verse 48, I love the way that Jesus closes this out with her Because he made it personal. He said unto her daughter be of good comfort, thy faith has made thee whole. Go in peace. And you know, brother James, as I was studying this, I find it so easy to relate to Because there's times that I have felt the same way that this woman has felt, you know, no doubt with her sickness and the things that she was dealing with, that she felt that she didn't belong in society, she in her condition. If you go back to the book of Leviticus, you will find that a woman of her condition was considered to be unclean in this time and in this era, and she would actually have to publicly announce herself as unclean, because anybody that had any association with her, that touched her or came in contact with her, they were considered to be unclean as well. Anything that she sat on or laid down on the chairs that she sat in, the beds that she lay in, those things were unclean and at times I'm sure that she felt like she was a cast out or somebody who didn't belong in the crowds.

Speaker 2:

I'm not sure what age this woman contracted this disease. We could think back that maybe it started out when she was a 12 or 13-year-old girl and was developing this menstrual cycle, and we may think that it started at that age and it progressed. And if it did start at that age. If you think of the things that she missed out on, I'm sure that as a young girl most young girls they dream of growing up and getting a husband and starting a family at that age, and I'm sure that if it was that age, she kindly felt deprived of that. What if she was a little older and she was in her 20s or something and had already been married and had kids At this point where she was considered to be unclean, she couldn't have any contact with her husbands or children.

Speaker 2:

She couldn't hold her babies anymore. She was considered to be unclean. She couldn't have any contact with her husbands or children. She couldn't hold her babies anymore. She was considered to be unclean. She couldn't have any contact with anybody because of her disease and because back then people looked down on her for that, just like in today's society.

Speaker 2:

You know, this woman was never given a name in the scriptures. Out of the three gospels, three of the four gospels that it is recorded in Matthew, mark and Luke, john don't really talk about it, but out of the three gospels you will never find the woman's name. You only find her condition, and I'm afraid that we live in a time that we've titled people and we make them feel that they're stuck in whatever past problem that they had, that they were dealing with or that they'd gone through, and they titled them that for life. You know, that's all I've ever heard this woman preached about is the woman with the issue of blood, and, yes, she had a problem for a little while and we'll talk about that problem, how she dealt with it, here in just a minute. But there's people out there that will label you for the circumstances and the things that you've had to deal with in life. There's people out there who will, and that's all they'll know about you. But I'm here to tell you today that don't got to be where it stops. That don't got to be what you're known for. You know, when her identity changed is when she had an encounter with Jesus. She went from a person, a woman of an issue of blood, to where Jesus referenced her as daughter. So now it don't matter what her name is at this point, she is a daughter of the Most High King because she had an encounter with Jesus. Now we take just a minute here and we want to go back and look at what the Scripture is saying.

Speaker 2:

She dealt with this disease for 12 years and if we can really just take a moment and put that in focus and look at the timetables, that is Twelve years is a long time, and I can't imagine myself walking in this kind of condition for 12 years. I mean, she felt like she was cast away, she was isolated, she didn't belong, and the Bible says she spent everything she had. She spent everything she had on physicians to try to get well. You know what that tells me? That tells me she was tired of living the way that she was having to live. She was trying to find a way out, so to speak. She was trying to find a cure to her problem. And I think that we've got that in today's society, where people think they need to clean up before they come to Jesus. They think they got to take care of this and they got to take care of that before they ever make it to Jesus.

Speaker 2:

This woman had tried all that to start with. She went and spent her whole life. The Bible says in one of the Gospels that she spent her life savings, or her life earnings, on trying to find a physician that could help her out of her circumstance, so to speak, but none was able to help her, and I think the book of Mark actually says that she actually grew worse. Now, how discouraging could that be? You're already feeling that you don't belong. You're already mentally and physically exhausted from this disease, and now you're spent out and you're not getting any better. But it seems like everything just keeps getting worse. I can relate to that. There's times in my life that I felt like I was hitting the bottom and then I felt like that wasn't the bottom after all. There was a little bit further down left for me to go.

Speaker 2:

But it wasn't until this time that this woman realized that she had to get to Jesus. That was her homely hope. Now, I'm sure that she had heard about the miracles that he'd done. She had heard of Jesus because she had knowledge of him, because she had already set and made up her mind that she had to get to this man. That was her only hope at this time. And you know, I wrote this note down and it's a saying that I love, and somebody out there, I think, needs to hear this.

Speaker 2:

She was all out of options. She was spent out. She didn't have anything left. She had tried visiting doctors. She had spent all of her money. She was mentally and physically exhausted and had absolutely no control over what she was going through. No matter what she'd done, she could not make it any better. She had exhausted every option that she could. Can I tell you today that when you're all out of options, when you don't have anything else left that you can do and that nobody else can help you in your situation, you are God's best candidate for a miracle. And that was the situation this woman was in. She, she was out of options and she was out money.

Speaker 2:

Now, you know I sometimes we get carried away with, with talking about money and and the things, but this woman had absolutely nothing to offer Jesus when she came to him. And I'm afraid that when I was out in the world, that was my biggest thing I didn't feel like I had anything to offer. I didn't feel like I had anything to bring to the table because Jesus didn't need me. You know, jesus, he could get his will done through anybody else and he owns the world. He owns the hills of a thousand guys. I mean, he owns everything. He don't need what I can do. He can get what his plan done through somebody else and anybody else and that suppressed me for a long time. But until you get desperate enough to realize in your life, just like I had to, that you got to have a Savior, you've got to have a relationship with Jesus.

Speaker 2:

This woman had sunk to her all-time low and her only way out was just to get to the hem of the garment of Jesus. Now we think about what that took to get her there. Think of the crowd that was surrounding Jesus and how that—she didn't belong there in that crowd because, like I said, she was considered to be unclean. She was considered to be, uh, not part of that society. She would have to announce herself as unclean. So, like I said earlier that she didn't come in contact with people because anybody she touched they were considered to be unclean as well. So she had a lot at stake. I mean she, she was taking a big risk.

Speaker 2:

I was wondering if somebody would have recognized her and called her out. And if you're out there listening today and you're feeling that way and you're saying I can't go to church because so-and-so is going to call me out, they know what I've done, they know my past, they know everything that I've been through Let me go ahead and tell you. If that person exists inside the church that's going to call you out on your past and what you've done they need to honor more than you do. You're more than welcome to come to Jesus at any time. You see, jesus stopped in his tracks. I'm sure they were people bumping in, like Peter said. He even questioned Jesus. He said what do you mean? Somebody touched you. There's a whole crowd here that's touching and bumping into you. And he said no, I felt something different. When this woman got a hold of me, or when somebody got a hold of me, he said I felt power and virtue leave my body. He said somebody touched me.

Speaker 2:

You see, I'm afraid that sometimes we let the church folks hold people back from getting to Jesus because we try to suppress them and make them feel like they don't belong and their issues is too big for them. There's nothing too big for God. There is nothing too big. And your circumstance, no matter I don't know who I'm talking to, but no matter the circumstance that you're going through and no matter the problems that you're dealing with right now, it's nothing that he hasn't seen already and it's not something that he doesn't already have an answer for. You see, in the book of Genesis, he had an answer for sin, automatic, just as soon as it happened. We serve a prepared God. Nothing catches him off guard. Nothing catches him by surprise. Your situation don't surprise him. It's not too big for him. It's something that he can deal with and he can use that to work. A marvelous testimony from you. And that's all you got to do is just find a way to get to him and don't let anybody stop you in your path to get to Jesus.

Speaker 2:

Now, if we look just a little bit farther and I'm going to try to hurry here just a little bit but this disease had her so desperate for a change. She spent all her living on physicians, but they couldn't help her. Let's put this into reality, something we can relate to. This woman was not only sick physically, she was mentally suffering as well. She was broken to the point where she couldn't talk to anybody about it. She didn't have anybody that she could call on the phones and talk about it. She felt like she was isolated and desperate and she had nothing. She had spent everything that she had to try to find some relief. She came to Jesus with nothing to offer except just how she was, and I'm going to say that one more time. She had nothing to offer except just how she was. And you see, when she had this encounter with Jesus, she didn't stay in her condition very long. As a matter of fact, the Bible says that immediately, immediately, she was cured. She had spent countless hours, no doubt, and she had spent her life savings on something that took her mere seconds to get what she had a true meeting with Jesus.

Speaker 2:

Now, I don't know who I'm talking to when I say this, but you may be going out and you may spend every dime that you make trying to find happiness with alcohol or drugs or whatever you may be, to temporarily suppress your feelings and temporarily suppress what you're going through, but can I tell you today that everything that you've spent money on, you will never find happiness that you can have until you have an encounter with Jesus. I penned this note earlier. Jesus does not want your wallet or your money. He wants your surrenderance and your heart. That's all it is. But we make things so big sometimes Well, I can't do this and I can't do that, and we actually put limitations on ourselves when we should turn everything over to God, because I think it's also said that we can water, we can plant and we can water, but it's up to God to give the increase.

Speaker 2:

Now, I believe that God is looking for some individuals in this season and this point of life that he is looking to pour out an increase on. I believe that we're living in the last days. You talk about wars and rumors of wars, you talk about pestilence and you talk about all these things that has to happen in the last days. I'm telling you right now, you can turn the news on and you can find it anywhere. It's like you're reading the Bible when you're watching the news. Nowadays, we're living so close to the coming of the Lord you can almost feel it in the air. You can almost feel him coming. And if you're out there today and you don't know him, I'm going to encourage you today. I don't know what your situation is. I don't know what your problem is. I don't know what you're dealing with. I know that this woman dealt with her issue for 12 years, but it took just a moment, just a second, for her to get down to the feet of Jesus and he was able to meet her needs. Now she tried to change herself. I'm going to stop with this point here. She tried to change herself before she met Jesus and you know, used to.

Speaker 2:

The devil's biggest lie and what he used to tell me, brother James, is you've got time, you've got time. You've got time that you can make things right later in life. You've got time. And one of his biggest lies to me was well, the Lord ain't going to return for a while. That's. That's all those old timers used to preach was the coming of the Lord and he ain't came yet. So you've got time. You've you know there's, there's time to get right. You can go out and you can live any way you want to and you can, you can kind of dwindling down, then you can make things right. You got time.

Speaker 2:

I can't count the times that I've had close encounters, near-death experiences, when I was working underground or even traveling on the road to work and just out and about. There's so many times that I could have been taken and slipped into eternity. So many times that I would have slipped into hell had I died at that point, because I was believing the lie of the enemy telling me that I have time. And the Bible says we don't even know when our own time's coming. We don't know when he's going to call her number, that death's going to come knocking on her doorbell and the thing that I believe is getting ready to happen is the Lord's coming back, and that was the devil's biggest thing to happen. Is the Lord's coming back. You know, and that was the devil's biggest thing was you've got time. Let me tell you, time's running out. I believe we're living in the last days and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Jesus came today, because he wouldn't be late and he wouldn't be early if he came today.

Speaker 2:

And also, the new thing that's kind of came about is this new lie of the enemy is that you've got to change yourself before you get to Jesus. You've got to clean yourself up, because that's the way I used to think later on, before I came to him. I've got to change. I've got to quit cussing, I've got to quit talking the way I do, I've got to quit doing this and I've got to quit doing that.

Speaker 2:

Can I tell you, brother James, and just be honest with you today, there are some of those things I couldn't have overcame on myself by myself. There's some of those things that was too big for me to suppress and keep deep down. There was things that was too big for me to give up. I liked them too much, because the Bible says that sin is fun for a season right. There was some things that I felt that was going to be too big for me to give up.

Speaker 2:

And can I tell you, on August the 21st of 2016, when I knelt at an order of repentance at the Stenek Gap Church of God over in Leslie County, kentucky, when I came to repentance that night, it was like I was changed in an instant, set free from all of it. The Bible says that once you are set free from the Son, you are free indeed. So all those things that I had the baggage that I thought that I couldn't get rid of I couldn't have cleaned up on my own. This woman couldn't have cleaned up on her own. She had people helping her, and I'm not knocking any kind of seven-way steps or whatever, but you've got people who are looking to people for help. Right now, can I tell you, your ultimate help comes from the Lord. Your ultimate help comes with an experience with Jesus. Now, it may take you some desperation to get there, like it did me.

Speaker 2:

I'll never forget that Sunday night when I came to church and I made up my mind, brother James, that if I could just get through the service, I could check it off my list and say you know what I can say that I've tried. I can say that I went to church and I can say that I gave God a chance, an opportunity. And you know, toward the end of that service, I thought I had it beat and I'm going to share just a portion of my testimony and I'm going to close. At the end of that service, I thought I had the thing beat. I said, through the worship portion of it, they had sung their songs, they took up the offer, the preacher had preached a great message and it was during the altar call and I thought that I had it beat. I thought that I had went through the entire church service and that I was going to be released, so to speak. I could go back out and I could say, well, I gave it a chance, I gave it a shot and I was going to be released, so to speak. I could go back out and I could say, well, I gave it a chance, I gave it a shot and I was going to lead the same way. I came in.

Speaker 2:

But that Sunday night the pastor of the Synod Gap Church of God was actually out helping his daughter move to college that Sunday night and he had a brother, john Pugh, filling in for him and speaking that night and, like I said, he'd already preached, he'd already done the altar call. Pastor Jeff Roberts was not supposed to even be there because, like I said, he was helping his daughter move in and so, help me, goodness. I was sitting there thinking I had this thing beat. I was going to leave, I was going to be able to suppress that conviction feeling, so to speak. I was going to be able to, in my own mind, say that I've done my part and the pastor slipped in.

Speaker 2:

At the close of service, the altar call was about finished the pastor come in the door. He saw me sitting on the back pew because that's where most people like to sit, that's where I was at that night, and he came up to me, put his arm around me and he said I remember you. Are you Jason Roberts? I said yes, and I remember him because back in the day, you know, before I backslid and got away from the Lord, I had actually preached at his church when I was like 12 years old, so he recognized me. I had a lot less hair now than what I did when he remembered me, but he still remembered me. He came up to me and I'll never forget the words that he said. He said are you still praying? And I couldn't even bring the words out, brother James. I just shook my head. No, he said, do you want to? And it was a feeling that I could not turn away because, like I said, I didn't even have the words. I just shook my head. Yes, he took me by the hand.

Speaker 2:

We went to the altar that night and I cried my eyes out and it had been almost 20 years, almost 20 years that I'd lived in a backslidden condition and at that moment I found myself so desperate for a Savior that I walked away from. And at that point I was unclean, brother James. I had the weight of the world on me. Like Paul said, he was a chief among sinners. I'd like to put myself up there with him too, because I was pretty bad. I won't get into what I was, because I don't give the devil privilege on bragging how bad I used to be. I'm going to tell you how good God is. He cleaned me up in an instant, in a minute, just like he done this woman in the Bible, and I find it so encouraging that I can relate to her because I wasn't physically dealing with the elements that she was dealing with. But for 20 years I was a sick individual. I was dying from my own disease called sin. You know, had this woman not had a cure, she may have bled to death. If I hadn't had a cure, I would die in my sin, and what worse punishment would anybody ever experience is to die in their sin and go to a devil's hell. So I don't know who I'm talking to.

Speaker 2:

I don't know who's listening to this, but I want to encourage you today. You have not went too far from God. You have not got too much baggage that he can't deal with. There is nothing in your life that you've ever done. There's no place that you've ever been. I don't care what you're going through or what you're dealing with. God has seen it all before, and if he can save a man like me and heal a woman like this, he can do the same for you. And today, as I'm getting ready to close, I want to encourage you with this you don't have to have money to know Jesus and come and have a contact with him. You don't even have to be in the physically best shape of your life, you don't even have to be. You don't have to clean yourself up before you get to him. He'll take you just the way that you are, because on August, the 21st 2016,.

Speaker 2:

He took an old sinner man like me, just the that I am, and I'm nothing now, but I'm better than I was. He remembers my name. You know. He went on. When he, when he gave this woman her healing, he called her daughter at the end of this thing. There's probably not a lot of people who knows my name. I'm not a big time, whatever, but I'm so glad that Jesus knows me as son and that my name is written down in the Lamb's book of life.

Speaker 2:

And if you're out there today and you're listening to this, I just want to encourage you. You've not gone too far, you've not done too much, you've not said too much. You can have an encounter with Jesus that will change your life forever, and I want to invite you just to pray this prayer with me as I'm ending today. Heavenly Father, we come before you today. We just thank you for sitting high and looking low. Lord, lord, we thank you for being a loving Father like you showcased here in this story in the Bible. Lord.

Speaker 2:

Lord, you didn't turn the woman away and you didn't criticize her for her condition, and she didn't seem like she was troubling you with her problems, but instead, lord, you welcomed her in and you even gave her a new name and you called her daughter. You set her free, lord, of her isolation. You was able to restore things, lord. There was things that she was going through and that she had to give up in her life, even relationships that she had to give up because of her condition, but you was able to reconcile all that just by healing her and setting her free from this sickness.

Speaker 2:

Lord, you see the one right now who is feeling like that they've exhausted every option that they know. They're feeling like they've stretched out the hands to everyone that they know in their contact list and they don't seem to be able to help them, lord, they have spent money trying to find happiness and trying to find peace and trying to find joy, only to find out that their condition, once the new, wears off, that their condition is only growing worse. Lord, I pray that you reveal to them today that they need an encounter with you and, lord, once they have that encounter with you, I pray that you will reveal to them the love that you have, just like you did with this woman when you referenced her as daughter, because we recognize there's a love between the father and daughter. There's a love between the father and son. There is a love and abundant relationship. Lord, show them that they are loved by you.

Speaker 2:

Lord, those that feel right now that they've got to clean up before they can have a relationship with you. I pray that you'll reveal to them that you want them just as they are. Nothing is too big for you, lord, we thank you for this time. We thank you for Brother James. I pray that you will add the increase to his podcast. Lord, may it grow. May those who hear this word be encouraged and uplifted as we ask it in Jesus' name. We pray Amen and amen. Thank you, brother James.
