CCOG Sunday Service 6-1-25: Are We Falsely Worshipping the True God?
What happens when we show up to church physically but remain spiritually absent? Drawing from the profound wisdom of the minor prophet Amos, this message cuts straight to the heart of modern Christianity's greatest struggle: giving false worship to the true God.
Unlike Elijah who confronted people worshiping Baal, Amos addressed those who maintained religious appearances while their hearts remained far from God. The pastor challenges us to examine whether we're merely going through religious motions – putting on church clothes and showing up – or truly engaging in authentic worship that extends beyond Sunday services. As he powerfully states, "Your worship tails on you," revealing that our lifestyle ultimately exhibits the true nature of our devotion.
The message takes an unexpected turn when addressing the territorial nature of modern Christianity. With refreshing candor, the pastor admits his own struggles with denominational barriers, sharing how God has been transforming his perspective toward neighboring churches. Rather than viewing them as competition, he advocates supporting any ministry that leads people to Christ, declaring, "They might not want me, but they're mine, and you can't stop me loving you." This kingdom-minded approach dismantles artificial divisions between believers who share the fundamental belief in Jesus Christ.
Perhaps most compelling is the revelation that judgment, as delivered through Amos, wasn't meant for destruction but restoration. Using the powerful illustration of a woman trapped under the rubble of the Twin Towers who cried out "I'm here!" when rescuers approached, the pastor reminds us that Jesus walks into our broken situations asking, "Is anybody here?" Our response determines our rescue.
Ready to experience worship that transcends religious performance? Join us Sunday mornings at 11:30 AM or Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM. Visit our website at hor421showbuzzsprout.com to discover more about authentic kingdom living.

So many mountains that we try to climb, so many places where we fall behind.
Speaker 2:Deep in the struggle just to find our way, we lose the heart and we lose the faith. Sometimes this life can tear your world apart.

Speaker 3:He was Minding his own business. Yeah, he didn't come from A Pentecostal pedigree. He didn't cut teeth on the church pews, he was a fig picker Minding his own business. He doesn't come from the lineage of prophets Like Isaiah and Jeremiah, and if you've been in Sunday school you know that the difference between a major prophet and a minor one had nothing to do with status.
Speaker 3:It had to do with the length of what they had to say from the Lord. The major prophets had a lot to say. The minor prophets was short, sweet and to the point, and I feel like we today we dance around what needs to be said. So Amos the prophet, amos, a minor prophet only nine chapters in his book, and I'll get into it more later. But I'm just going to share about two or three minutes of my heart, and I'll get into it more later.
Speaker 3:But I'm just going to share about two or three minutes of my heart, something that stuck out to me, tyler, when I was studying the last couple weeks on Amos. I tell you what normally I'm just going to tell you. I stress out over sermon preparation, but for 17 days God just poured them in as fast as I could pour them out, and I've been sitting on this one for a minute and this is what God showed me in my study and in my research of the prophet Amos, unlike a lot of what we've read, for example, the other day, when we had Elijah, the prophet Elijah Coming against the 450 prophets of Baal, elijah was addressing a people who worshipped A false god, who worshiped a false god. Amos is focusing on a people who falsely worship the true god. Let me say that one more time.
Speaker 1:Come on.
Speaker 3:When they worshiped Baal, they were giving true worship to a false god. And now Amos is talking to people who give false worship to the true god. In other words, they showed up, they put their church clothes on, they brushed their teeth, combed their hair and they showed up, but they were giving false worship to a true God. You can show up just because you sit in a church, just because you know of, just because you've heard about and just because you claim to be. It'll show in your worship. And we got some stingy worshipers in the world today, and I ain't even talking about your pocketbook, so you don't have to zip them up, and I ain't even talking about your pocketbook, so you don't have to zip them up. Revival has revealed the altar's full. Revival has rendered the baptistry full. By the way, there's a lot of them.
Speaker 3:I don't see today who of you is going to check on them. I think who of you is waiting on who of me and I'm waiting on who of you is going to check on them. I ain't going to baby them. They're babies in Christ. Yeah, you are Now, serena. If it's you, I'm probably not going to baby you, but you've been in this a minute. But if it's some of you that's been in this a minute, we're going to. You got to baby them. You can't just abandon them. We'll call spiritual social services on you. Come on, that's called neglect. We act like they're just going to come back in here because it's a church and it's church time. There's a devil out there tugging on them you're right when's the last time we had church?
Speaker 3:what day was it? Friday night, devil had all day saturday. Yep, I said. The devil had all day Saturday. For some girl to send some boy, come on. Or some boy to send some girl? He had all day Saturday. Amen To pull out all the stops. You can't get stubborn on the babes in Christ. Amen, somebody's got to go after them. But I'm talking about people who give false worship to a true God. We come in here and expect somebody to drum us up or I don't know. We should be able to unplug up here and still worship the roof off this place. Amen.
Speaker 3:Amos prophesied judgment to Israel because their worship wasn't worthy Because their worship was half-hearted. Pastor, you don't know what I do at home. Yeah, I do, it shows. Come on, your worship tails on you, amen. Our lifestyle exhibits our worship. Worship is not an event. Worship is not 1130 on Sunday and 630 on Wednesday. Worship is when you open your eyes this morning and you said thank you, jesus, for the breath in my lungs and the beat in my heart.
Speaker 3:Sometimes things have to be removed from us before we understand the extent of where our worship should come. Sometimes we got to go through hell to understand we're not going to hell. Sometimes we got to go through sickness. I'm going to say it again you can go to heaven in your sickness, but you can't go to heaven in your sinfulness. You can go to heaven, maim. You can go to heaven limping. You can go to heaven maimed. You can go to heaven limping. You can go to heaven with members missing off your body. You can go to heaven, amen, with all kinds of issues with this body, but you can't go to heaven with sin in the camp and you can't go to heaven with iniquity in your life, and you can't go to heaven, amen, living like the devil. No, no, no. We've got to be a people who live out our worship Like the devil.
Speaker 1:No, no, no.
Speaker 3:We got to be a people who live out our worship.
Speaker 3:People have got to know that we live a lifestyle of worship and Amos declared judgment on Israel Because they gave false worship to the true God. I'm not saying we shouldn't go around and say how are you, how was your week? What did you have for supper? Was it any good? Are you going to go back? I'm not saying we shouldn't do that, but, folks, when we enter into his gates with thanksgiving, we're not talking about the Wildcats or the Cowboys, we're not talking about the Yankees, we're not talking about what was for dinner, we're not talking about our favorite hobby. I don't know that we understand that when we enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise. I shared a little bit with you Friday night.
Speaker 3:Elijah said to Ahab and the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets that sat at the table of Jezebel. So he said to 850 people today, you're going to choose who you're going to serve. Are you going to serve God or are you going to serve Baal? Are you going to serve God or are you going to serve Baal? And I think there's a whole lot of Baal worship and we don't even know it. Whether we worship our hobbies, whether we worship our paychecks, whether we worship our status, whether we worship our family, whether we worship our status, whether we worship our family, whether we worship the gods of this world, the culture, the woke movement, whatever we have to choose today who we're going to worship. And then I read yesterday down at the Harlan Center I'm just going to go ahead and tell you we had a time yesterday morning with about 30 people maybe 30 people. We had a good time. The Lord came by and moved and here's what the Lord spoke to me and moved, and here's what the Lord spoke to me and this is what the Lord's been doing in my heart. If I can find it, you'll have to bear with me for just a minute. Bear with me for just a minute, georgina. I know you've got Amos 9 and 11. That's what I told you. Good job.
Speaker 3:But I need you to go to Luke, chapter nine, verse 49 and 50. Because we become so territorial. This is my church and my people and my pastor and my worship team and my that we act like God can't do anything anywhere else. Sean, I've had to sit back and think why does that bug me? I'm just being truthful with you today. Why does that bother me? They're doing kingdom work. Why does that bother me? Because it's the enemy trying to separate us by geography, by denomination, and when it happens somewhere and doesn't happen here, a spirit of jealousy wants to come over us. Yep 44 saved, 60 baptized in water.
Speaker 3:I can count on one hand how many ministers outside of this church has said we're excited for you, we're glad for what God's doing, because we get so afraid that we're going to lose something along the way. And John answered and said Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name and we forbade him because he don't change it yet, don't change this verse yet. Because he didn't go to our church, because he wasn't church of God. We told him to stop and even more narrowed it down, because he doesn't go to the Church of God. He was casting out devils in your name and we told him to stop because he didn't follow with us.
Speaker 3:Maybe folks are a little different, but I believe that a majority of us can say that we do believe that Jesus Christ is the son of the living God. He is the savior of the world. He was born of the Virgin Mary, man. He was crucified, he was buried and he rose again and he's coming back to get his people. If we can all agree on that, then we ought to be able to worship together that we believe Jesus.
Speaker 2:Oh, I'm not worshiping with you because if you believe Jesus is the Son of God, if you believe Jesus left the splendors of heaven, took on the form of a man, came to this foot on an earthly robe, amen, walked this planet, felt my infirmities, felt my sickness, felt my, my sickness, felt my pain, took my sin, hung on a cross buried in a tomb, resurrected from the dead and coming back on the clouds. Then you're my brother and you're my sister. You might be my baptist brother, but you're my brother. You might be my catholic sister, but, bless God, sister, none. You are my sister. You might be free, pentecost, but I might not be yours, but you're mine and you can't stop me loving you.
Speaker 3:Now, they might not want me, but they're mine, amen. And we become caught up in that. I don't know why we're here. 50, jesus said forbid him not, for he that is not against us is for us. They might look different and act different and worship different. They might have different doctrinal issues, different doctrinal opinions, amen. But if they believe in me and they're casting devils out in my name and they're worshiping me and they're doing things in my name, if they're casting devils out in my name and they're worshiping me and they're doing things in my name, if they're not against us, amen, then they are for us. Don't forbid them. You let them worship, you, let them cast out devils, you pray for them, you get behind them.
Speaker 2:That's why I said Friday night amen, kaywood, church of God. We ought to give the first offering, amen to this group at the mall that bought a piece of land at Cranks Creek. We ought to give them a donation and an offering that says we're behind you. That if people drive through Kaywood and they don't stop at the altar before they get to the Virginia line, they take a hard right into that field and they go to the altar and they give their heart to Jesus. And if they're coming this way amen. We need to support the next church down the road. That if they pass us by, they'll kneel at an altar somewhere and make Jesus their Lord, I don't care where it is.
Speaker 3:I don't mean it bad, Brother Danny, but you know what I tell people If you're another pastor in another church, if you can get them, you can have them. Because they ain't mine, they're His.
Speaker 2:We're all His Amen. If you have the ability to take them, I ain't even calling it sheep stealing, because he's the shepherd and it's sheep stealing if the devil takes them. It ain't sheep stealing if another church takes them or another preacher takes them, it's sheep stealing. When the devil gets them back, that's sheep stealing. And that's when I'm going to fight, that's when I'm going to put my spiritual hands around the neck of the devil and say you can't have them.
Speaker 3:I'm starting from the pulpit to the sound booth. We're going to pray for them, we're going to support them and if a church wants to open a church two doors down, we're going to bid them well and we're going to pray that God fill their church with people in the altar being saved. That's what God's been doing in me and that's what's bringing revival. That's what's bringing the move of God.
Speaker 2:That's what brings revival Amen. That's what brings revival Amen. It's when we know that we are part of a family that's bigger than what we've got at 3911. Us Highway 3001 in K-1. This kingdom is bigger than this.
Speaker 3:And I've struggled with it. I'll tell you right now I've struggled with it. I'll tell you right now I've struggled with it. But until we get kingdom minded not denominationally minded, kingdom minded, well, I don't agree. That's between them and God. We work out our own salvation with fear and trembling amen. But as long as I pastor this church, brother Jamie, I never want us to fall into the trap of giving false worship to a true God. I ain't going to lie to you. It's been a tough crowd this morning, brother Tyler, been a tough crowd, but that can't change what you all do here, because you're not doing it for them, you're doing it for Him. Matter of fact, we should put a big black screen up here, right here, so that you can't even see, because sometimes that discourages you from doing what you're doing, when they sit there on their seats like deer in headlights, like we've not been in revival, and some of these people that's been up here shouting the victory the first five nights.
Speaker 2:I gradually watched them go back a few, because some little something happened. Their fire started trying to diminish. Now that's when you need to get up here faster. My fire's going out. I need my fire reignited. I need some fuel on my fire. I need something. I've got to get there. I can't let it go.
Speaker 3:Man, we can't let it go. Man, we can't run around and chase a shout. But I never want us to be guilty of being a people that falsely worship the true God and I never want us to be a people that give true worship to a false god. Amen, and that was the message God gave to Amos. Go tell the people that they're giving false worship to me. I'm going to get to Amos 9 one of these days, because later we'll find that the plowman doesn't just sit around and wait. He gets busy, even if he's bumping into the reaper, and I'll get into all that later. One sign of true revival you ready, you ready. Becca Joe, where are you? You get ready too, because I'm getting ready to hand this off to you, girl, and it's yours.
Speaker 3:One sign of a true revival, and an essential part of it, is this increased activity amongst God's laborers. Folks, without the activity of the laborers, the harvest can't be collected. Look around you, look around you. There's a lot of young people that aren't here. That was here for 17 straight days and it's going to take more than two or three people to go and collect that harvest. Increased activity amongst the laborers is a sign of revival. I get it. You go to work and you want to go home and you want to prop your feet up and rest Nothing wrong with that but we got to get busy because the harvest is great but the laborers are few. Pray to the Lord of the harvest that he will send laborers into the vineyard.
Speaker 3:You talk about judgment. This particular judgment listen to me this particular judgment that Amos was giving to the people of Israel was not judgment of revenge, but it was the only way, listen to me, in which it is possible to usher in the restored order on which the heart of God is set on. So I'm going to say this this judgment was not to destroy them. This judgment was to get their attention and restore them. There's a judgment to destroy, but there's also a judgment to restore, and this judgment that the prophet Amos spoke to the people of Israel was not to destroy them but to restore them, and I believe God is trying to restore.
Speaker 3:Last night we went back down to the Harlan Center and listened to some of the music and I heard one of the people speaking and they told this and we're going, we're going, becca Jo's going to bless the graduates today. We're going to bless the graduates, because we love you, we're proud of you. Don't anybody run off. She said when do you want to do it? I said well, they're going to be gone if we do it at the end, and they ain't hardly here if we do it at the beginning.
Speaker 3:That's called false worship to a true God. Take that up with him. I'm just the pizza delivery boy. I didn't bake it, I didn't put it together. Take it up with him. You ain't offended, you're convicted. And she said that she read somewhere where a lady was caught under the rubble of one of the twin towers and was inhaling all of this dust and smoke and smut and these ashes were all around her and she was buried under the rubble, inhaling all of this dust and smoke and smut and these ashes were all around her and she was buried under the rubble. And the woman said she just started praying and said God, prepare me to die right here. And she said I don't know if it's five minutes later or hours later, but I heard somebody walk up and say Brother Tim, is anybody in here?
Speaker 2:And she said I could see a pinhole beam of light come through.
Speaker 3:And, Brother James, she said with all the effort she had in her.
Speaker 2:she said I'm here, I'm here.
Speaker 3:You're here today and you feel like you're buried under the ashes and the rubble of your world that has fallen in on you. Jesus just walked in the room and asks the question are is anybody here? And if that's you, you need to say I'm here. And they dug her out, they brought her out and she lived. Jesus will rescue you from the rubble. We'll get into more of this later. Please, please.
Speaker 1:So many mountains that we try to climb, so many places where we fall behind.
Speaker 2:Deep in the struggle just to find our way, we lose the heart, we lose the faith. Sometimes this life can tear your world apart.
Speaker 1:But you've got to remember His love is strong and know the wind will find. Hey, you've been listening to Cadewood Church of God's live recording on Sunday service.
