421 Show
The Empty Space Within: How Only God Can Fill the Void
What does it take to find genuine contentment in a world of empty promises? In this powerful debut episode of Truth Talk, Pastor Greg Abraham and Brother Hubert Saylor cut through the noise to address the void we all feel inside—a space designed specifically for God's presence.
The hosts share profound insights about how humans frantically attempt to fill this emptiness with possessions, relationships, achievements, and addictions. "People try to put all kinds of things inside that space," Pastor Abraham explains, pointing out how even Hollywood celebrities with seemingly perfect lives turn to substances because material success never satisfies our spiritual hunger.
Brother Hubert recounts a touching story of helping a 66-year-old man discover salvation through a simple, sincere prayer. This powerful testimony illustrates how spiritual awakening often begins when we finally acknowledge our emptiness and respond to God's gentle drawing. The biblical parable of the Prodigal Son comes alive as they discuss how many of us, like the wayward son, imagine fulfillment exists somewhere beyond God's presence, only to discover true satisfaction in returning home.
One of the most memorable moments comes when Brother Hubert shares the story of a grandmother who baked brownies with "just a little" contamination to teach her grandchildren why even small compromises with sin are unacceptable. This vivid illustration drives home their message that spiritual victory requires both submission to God and active resistance against temptation.
The conversation concludes with a beautiful invitation from Isaiah 55, encouraging listeners to "taste and see that the Lord is good" through personal experience rather than mere intellectual understanding. If you're searching for authentic spiritual truth that addresses life's deepest questions, this thought-provoking conversation between two seasoned spiritual mentors offers wisdom that transcends religious clichés and speaks directly to the human condition.
I would like to welcome everyone to the show enjoy and God bless everyone.
Hey, I'd like to welcome everybody to Talk Truth Talk with Greg Abraham and Hubert Saylor. This is a new show, and I hope you guys enjoy it.
SPEAKER_01:I am Pastor Abraham from uh Wowans Creek, Kentucky. And as Brother James said, this is a new show. We're calling it Truth Talk. And um what is their goal for starting this uh podcast uh is just to proclaim the truth. And um Bible tells us that we will know the truth. Jesus said it we'll know the truth, and the truth will make us free. Amen. So we're not doing this for any other reason uh but to proclaim the truth, to exalt uh Jesus Christ, who is the truth and his word, and um not uh uh because we know that in and of ourselves uh we're nothing without God. Amen. And uh and that should be no surprise for anybody to to think that uh God made humanity, and uh uh I believe He made us, Brother Hubert, with a place down deep inside of us that's supposed to be inhabited by Him. Our Father God Creator, amen. And uh down deep inside of us is this place where uh when we're reconciled with God that He becomes part of us. And people try to put all kinds of things inside that space down deep inside of them. A lot of people uh they're workaholics and they just can never make enough money uh to fill that hole down deep inside of them, and they live under the guise that uh someday, you know, they'll really make enough money and they'll truly be content. Uh other people, it's possessions, you know, they may be all about their house, and uh that's what they're all uh working on 24-7, trying to make their house as nice as they can be. Some people it's sports. I know people that's so much into sports, they know every kind of stat, every player that's ever played it, and they're just chasing that all the time. And uh other people it's earthly relationships. They've been uh married and divorced five or six times, and and down deep inside of them, they think, well, one day I'm gonna meet that one and I'm truly gonna be happy. Amen. But that's what this show is all about, is trying to cut through all the the hype and get down to the truth of the matter, which is there's only one thing that satisfies us, and it doesn't come from anything outward, but rather it's an inner working of the Holy Spirit that He does to um reconcile us with the Father God that made us. Amen. I just say it's an honor and a privilege to uh to have this podcast and this uh truth talk uh with my brother Hubert Saylor, a man who's uh been in this way a long time, been serving the Lord a long time. He uh resides uh in Corbyn, Kentucky, and goes to uh Brother Jerome Cox Church. Uh was it the Gospel Temple? Is that the name of it? Uh Corbin Full Gospel Church of God. Corbyn Full Gospel Church of God, amen. But um but he's been like a spiritual father to me over the years, and uh we've just connected on the inside, and uh I believe God's just sort of directed us to uh to start this, and our desire is that someone out there that hears this uh will be delivered uh from evil, will be delivered from the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches, uh, that will they will see the truth of God in Christ Jesus, recognize uh what they were created to be, and to walk in that created purpose that God made them for. That's their desire. I realize there are so many voices in the world, ain't they, Brother Hubert? There's so many voices everywhere clamoring for attention, amen, and pointing you in this direction and that direction. But God says I'm not the author of confusion, amen. Uh He's a loving heavenly father, and um He made an antidote and a remedy uh for fouling humanity uh that we can be reconciled to him. Amen. Brother Hubert, your thoughts, amen.
SPEAKER_03:My own.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, your own.
SPEAKER_03:What brother Abraham just brought made me think a lot of people are confused about salvation. They do not know what conviction is. I can give an example of a man in Bluefield, Virginia. I was drawn to him, he's sixty-six years old, he had been to church a few times, had never made a commitment, never fully understood salvation. And I I asked him, Do you uh do you believe Jesus was the Son of God? And he died on a cross for our sins, and he rose again, and he will save our soul. He he died that we might be saved. Amen. He said, Well, I don't know what to do, but lately I've been wondering about my life and where it's going. And I said, Well, that is what I would call the Lord drawing you, as stated in John 6 44.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:That spirit is starting to draw, and you're beginning to wonder what's going on with your life and where you're headed. Amen. Well, how do what how do I pray? Well i I said, Well, Jack, that there's not gonna be lightning or thunder. A voice probably won't speak to you from heaven, but you just tell him, I realize that I'm a sinner, that I'm lost.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_03:And and and and Lord Jesus, I want you to forgive my sins. And I said, Jack, I'm not gonna pray for you now. You've got to do this in your own words. Amen. And uh it's not it's not something that people have made it complicated, but it isn't. If you're sincere, if you're real and you want to be born again, he'll save you right here.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:And he bowed his head and he prayed and asked Jesus to save him, and he came up saying, I'm saved.
SPEAKER_01:Glory to God.
SPEAKER_03:And he started telling everybody around there, I just got saved.
SPEAKER_01:Glory to God.
SPEAKER_03:I said, Now, Brother Jack, you go to your local church and you tell them that you have prayed and asked the Lord to save you, and you're in with it now for good.
SPEAKER_01:Amen. Hallelujah. That's wonderful. That's wonderful, brother. Amen. That's getting reconciled with God. Yes, you know, um, and so many people are just um going down wrong roads and chasing uh rainbows, if you will, you know, trying to to find something that really satisfies. And I I think about here in the United States of America, a lot of the people that's out in Hollywood, you know, and um that have um multimillion dollar homes that they live in, and um real expensive automobiles to drive around in. They've got the uh best-looking wives, the most handsome husbands that anybody uh could desire. They're famous uh worldwide. Uh, but you know, it's funny how they still turn to drugs and alcohol like poor people here in Appalachia. And I think that speaks something to us, and what that speaks is none of that stuff satisfies.
SPEAKER_04:Amen.
SPEAKER_01:None of that stuff truly satisfies. The word of God tells us uh what would it profit a person if they gain the whole world and they lost their own soul. Amen. And uh me and Brother Hubert's uh old school, like I said, we've been uh uh we've been going to church a long time, and a lot of us likes a lot of the old hymns that come out of the old hymn books and stuff, and uh and uh some of those old songs in there, they were uh written by men and women that was spirit-filled, amen, that had made Christ their everything, and they're really like sermons, a lot of them are. And uh one that comes to mind is um it goes along with what we're talking about here, it says, I searched for him, and I knew not what I searched for. I longed for him, and I knew not what I longed for. Then I found Jesus, and I knew that I would search no more. He filled that longing down in my soul. I think, Brother Hubert, that's an accurate uh description of where a lot of people are. Uh they want to truly be happy, they want to be content, and uh they try to do it in so many different ways, but isn't it um something that a lot of times Jesus is a last resort uh who they'll turn to, you know, and I thought about that man you're just talking about there, you know, and uh the good words that you told him and stuff, and I thought about that old song that says, He was there all the time. He was there all the time, waiting patiently in line, you know, and that's their God, amen. He he's a perfect gentleman, absolutely, you know. Uh he won't override your will, he'll gently, lovingly beckon you to come to him, and um and uh Lord, it's it's a travesty, isn't it? How long we make him wait and how much that we put him off, and um and he was there all the time to reconcile with us and to bring the joy of the Lord in our heart.
SPEAKER_03:Amen. Going along those lines, Brother Greg, I meet a lot of people who haven't forgiven themselves and and they say I've done so much. I I abused my family, I stole from people, I got on drugs and I would do anything, and I've alienated myself so bad that I no longer respected myself or thought that I could ever have or be anybody. But when the Holy Ghost cut hold of me and uh and and got my attention, I I'm thinking of one particular sister in in the Corbin church, and she said that night when he dealt with me, I said, Lord Jesus, if you are real, like they say, let me wake up in the morning and the voices will be gone. Yeah I will not get out of the bed hunting for a pill somewhere where I'm gonna get a hold of enough money to get it. But those tormenting voices that came after me every day will be gone. And she testified, she said, I woke up that next morning and I was amazed they were gone. And I felt freedom and peace that I hadn't known for 11 years of addiction. He'll do it. And she is now working as a counselor to other young ladies and helping them to know Jesus. Yes, and that's the most wonderful transition from the devil's army to God's army that you'll ever look at.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:And uh I've invited her to come with me the next time to continue gospel church and tell that testimony and sing because the Lord has anointed her with power to sing in the Holy Ghost. I'm talking about old school like we love to have it. Yeah. Hallelujah. Amen. Lord.
SPEAKER_01:He uh sets our feet upon a rock. Amen. He gives us a purpose in our life, he changes us from darkness to light, amen. I especially love the story of the prodigal son in the Bible, amen. Uh He dwelt at his father's house, amen. And that's air origins. God created humanity, amen. Hallelujah. In God, we have everything we need, amen. The Bible says he'll supply all my needs according to his riches in glory, amen. But what happened with him is uh it started with an imagination, Brother Hubert.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:He started in his mind with an imagination, he began to think that there's something other out there that he needed. Amen. And the story goes that he asked for his inheritance and he went out into the world, and the Bible says he wasted that inheritance on righteous living. And um ain't that the way the devil does? He he paints, he paints a glorious picture of of what life can be without God. Amen. And um, you know, people's minds uh show here is called The Truth Talk. People's minds are pulled away from the truth in so many ways. And the devil's a master at that. Yeah. You know, I've heard people condemn uh movies and entertainment and stuff uh by saying uh, well, there's no nudity in it or no bad talking in it, you know. But I I I look at it like this. Does it even mention God in it at all? Does it include him or is he left out? Does it exalt humanity all by himself without any help from God? And that's what a lot of entertainment does. It exalts that this old file in human nature and tells us that we can be whatever we want to be, you know, and we can be a success in and of ourselves without the help of God. But uh my friends, that will never happen because uh we were created to be a part of Him. Amen. And Him be a part of us. And um I especially love that scripture in John that tells us they that hath my commandments, Jesus said this and keeps them, it's that person that loves me. And if that person loves me, I will love him. Amen. Amen. And my father will love him, and we will come into him and make air abode in him. And I'm here to tell you, it doesn't get no better than that. You've achieved your purpose, you've become reconciled with the father that made you. When you hear his words, you recognize it as truth, and you embrace it in your heart, and then he in turn loves you back and comes in and makes his abode in you. But this man had an imagination in the prodigal son there that there was something else out there to satisfy, and he wasted that money. And the Bible says a famine rose in the land, and uh he began to be in want. Yeah, and that's the way the devil does, he leaves you high and dry. He promises big things, but he always leaves you high and dry. And so he finds himself in the hog lot. I like to think it he's pulling up a big rind covered in mud and pig slop, and he's pulling it up to his mouth to eat it. Then something wonderful happens. Amen. Something awesome happens. The Bible says he came to himself. Yeah. Like that man you was talking over in was it West Virginia? Yeah. Yeah. He came he was beginning to come to himself like you was talking about. He was starting to think rationally, hey, I need something more than what I've been giving myself to. And so this prodigal came to himself and he said, Which of my father's servants have bread enough to spare? And I'm sitting here starving to death. This is what I'm gonna do. Amen. I'm gonna return to my father's house, and I'm gonna say, Make me as one of your hired servants. Amen. Amen. And but what did it say, Brother Hubert? While he was yet a far way off, he saw him, the father was looking for him. That's that's what I say to our listeners today, Brother Hubert, the Father's looking for you.
SPEAKER_03:He's looking for you, amen. The thing is, you can't play with the devil at all. No, the Bible says, Neither give place to the devil. Amen. He will try to forge his way into your life and TV programs, movies, music, all sources of things that come your way, he will forge these messages of sin into them.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:This is a true story, and I've used it in messages many times. A grandmother was struggling with her grandchildren, dabbling with too much stuff that were devilish and sinful. And they would say, Grandma, there's just a little bit of that in there. He just cursed one time. There was maybe one suggested sexual sin or something, and and that's not all that bad. That's just a little bit. And she said, Lord, what can I do about that to show them? And they had to have you to come and buy her house on the weekend and she'd make a big pan of brownies. And so she made them brownies, but she put a little dog poop in them.
SPEAKER_01:Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_03:And she set them brownies out there on the table and said, Now, youngins, these brownies are the same as always, except, according to your way of looking at things, I put a little bit of dog poop in them, and you won't even be able to tell it. Come on, you can just brush that off and act like it ain't there. But now I figured I'd better tell you that nobody touched any brownies. All of a sudden, just that little bit was too much, real quick.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:Now, when you get to looking at fooling with the devil and fooling with sin, a little bit is too much. Amen. When David stayed at home from the war and stood around looking out the window off the house top, that's when he looked on Bathsheba.
SPEAKER_01:Amen.
SPEAKER_03:When you become idle and you're not seeking the Lord and you're not busy doing what you need to do, come on. And your backside of your breeches is worn out more than your knees is, and you're not calling on him, you better believe your enemy will bring something your way to distract you, to tear you down. Amen. He'll put a scene on a computer, he'll put a scene on a cell phone. He will come after you because he came to steal, kill, and destroy. And you must not give him any place whatsoever in Jesus' name. And uh what James chapter 4, 17 and 18 says, submit yourself to God and resist the devil, and he will flee. Comma. Draw nigh to God and he'll draw nigh to you. You go to work in that formula, and you're starting to walk in victory big time. In the name of Jesus. Hallelujah. Amen.
SPEAKER_01:Hallelujah. Glory to God. I think the apostle Paul said it this way know ye not whom you yield your members to. You become servants to obey. Yeah. And uh the devil knows that. He entices uh people uh with that. I like to think about it this way. I believe he's got a big old tackle box. The devil does. And he's got all kinds of lures in there, all different kinds, and uh he's been doing this long enough to know what kind of lure to throw at you. Yeah and he knows how to work that lure to entice you and stuff. But you know, that same verse, who you yield your member to, you become servants that obey. We have the choice. We can recognize the truth that's in God the Father through Jesus Christ. Amen. Walking after his spirit, and we can yield our members to him to his word. I'd rather be his servant to obey, because see, that's what I was created to do. Amen. Is to serve him, amen. Uh my heart was made to love him, amen. Amen. Amen. My mouth was made to praise him, amen. My hands were raised to be lifted up and praise the Lord, amen. And uh once again, that's when we truly become who we were created to be, amen.
SPEAKER_03:Amen. Amen. We talked about it earlier today. How long would it take you to pray one hour? When any of us that are born again that are regularly attending church for that matter, let alone those that are lost.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:How many times if you accumulate your prayer time, what does it amount to? That will give you a quick inventory of where you're at with the Lord. And one verse I particularly like in the Old Testament, I believe it's in the Psalms, where David said that I meditate on my bed and I think of you, Lord. And I think about the things I need to do and who you are in my life, that you're Almighty God with all power that can do all things. You you you have created the the the victory for Israel, the victory for my family. You have offered us the promised land in Canaan. God will give us everything we need or ever could possibly use if we'll serve him and walk with them. Enoch walked with them so closely he took him on to heaven.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:But we think, like at a harwl commercial, that a little dab will do ye. Well, a little dab won't do ye. You you'll sit down and find yourself listening to one of these people in 2 Corinthians 10, marvel not that he transformed himself into a minister of light. He will be in his three-piece suit, he'll be looking good, he'll be smiling, he'll be talking soft talk to you and telling you even though you're laying in the hog pen like the prodigal, you're okay. It really ain't that bad. Well, if you're wallering in sin, it's that bad. Amen. And and a guy told me, he said, How do you know that no sin will enter into heaven? I said, Well, when Jesus hung on the cross and he took mine and your sin upon himself, God the Father turned away and did not look at him because that sin was on him right then, and if he wouldn't look at it on his son on the cross, you think you're getting through the gate of heaven with sin in your life, that lying preacher will be there in the lake of fire with you because it is not happening. And if you got saved years ago and you're out here living like the devil, and you claim, Well, I got saved years ago at Bible school, or I I got saved for a little while, I'm covered for life. My friend, if you're out here sinning, your policy has expired. Yeah. And you better get in an altar of prayer and repent and ask the Lord to forgive you and renew you and bring you back into the body of Christ where you can have your ticket to heaven instead of hell in Jesus' name.
SPEAKER_01:Amen. Amen. It really is about a relationship. Yeah. Not about a uh yes, sign on the dotted line and say, I believe. But it is about a relationship. I knew a couple of fellows myself that said that, oh, I I made a decision when I was a youngster in Sunday school, and this man uh at the time he told me this was uh selling drugs out on the street. I watched him every day waiting and making drug transactions out there, and somehow or another he got where he thought he could live that kind of a life, you know, and still hope to make it to heaven, you know. Another person said the same thing, a different acquaintance of mine, and uh he was uh uh a bad alcoholic, you know, and uh just drunk himself to death and uh he would say the same thing. I believe it says in in the book of Luke, Jesus is talking, he said, Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say?
SPEAKER_03:Amen. Jesus said, If you love me, you will obey my commandments. Do I really love him? You know, a lot of times are we over?
SPEAKER_01:No, we're good.
SPEAKER_03:A lot of times people uh they'll tell their wife they love her, and you let them get 30 miles from home, they'll go out with somebody else. Yeah. And think they ain't nothing to it and claim they still love their wife. That's a liar. Amen. Uh a lot of times the devil would love us to convince ourselves that we're okay when we're not. I cannot seek him enough. I uh thir Psalm 37 verse sour verse verse four says, Delight yourself in the Lord, and he'll give you the desires of your heart. If I delight myself in my Lord, I have it all.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, amen.
SPEAKER_03:And the joy of the Lord's greater than any materialistic or earthly thing I can never lay my hand to.
SPEAKER_01:Amen. Praise God. Amen. What'd Jesus say? They that believeth on me, out of him will come rivers of living water. Amen. This scripture right here, I'd like to end our show. It's we're running out of time, but I'd like to end it with this right here. And if Brother Hubert wants to make a comment before we get over here, it's Isaiah 55 and one. And it says uh it's this great wonderful invitation. It says, Everyone that thirsteth, there's a lot of thirsty people out there. Amen. Come you to the water. Then that hath no money, come and buy and eat. Come and buy wine and milk without money and without price. Then he asked the question, Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which satisfies not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good. Let your soul delight in its fatness, amen.
SPEAKER_03:So After you've tasted of the goodness of God, nothing else will impress you. Amen. And it's kind of like the preacher told the atheist in church one time, he said, You see this apple here? What does it taste like? He said, I don't know. He said, That's your problem. Same way with the Lord, you don't know what it tastes like because you've never tasted it.
SPEAKER_01:Amen. Amen. And the Bible says that, doesn't it? Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh so that's their that's their uh cry, and the way we'll end this first edition of Truth Talk here. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Amen. Give him a try. He never ever disappoints. Amen. Well, next time this is Pastor Abraham and Brother Hubert Saylor.
