The tomb is empty, Jesus is alive, and the real question hits hard: what do we do next? We follow the footsteps of two discouraged disciples on the road to Emmaus who walk away from Jerusalem confused and disappointed, only to discover the risen Christ has been beside them the whole time. If you’ve ever felt like you’re drifting, hiding in fear, or unsure what God is doing, this conversation brings the hope of the resurrection down to street level.

We dig into Luke 24 and watch how Jesus responds to sorrow and doubt. He doesn’t rush past their pain, He draws near, listens, and then opens the Scriptures to bring clarity. That’s a practical roadmap for Christian living today: faith doesn’t erase every question, but it keeps us walking. When God’s Word lights up, hearts change, direction changes, and what felt like failure starts to look like purpose.

Then we move from comfort to calling. Jesus speaks “Peace be unto you” before He gives any instruction, and that peace still meets us in rooms of worry today. From there comes mission: “Go ye therefore and teach all nations.” You don’t have to be a preacher to share the gospel message. God calls willing people, fills them with power through the Holy Ghost, and turns fear into courage. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review telling us what “road” you’re on right now.

Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. What a beautiful day in the neighborhood to be talking about the word of God. So if I sound a little nervous today, my mom is sitting in here with me listening, and I'm nervous, but that's okay. I'm going to get through it. It's a beautiful day. And we are going to talk today about after the resurrection. We're going to talk about some things. We're going to go through a little bitty story about Jesus, and he was on the move, and we're going to talk about that because Easter Sunday's past and the tomb is empty. Jesus is alive. And now what do we do? And I know the disciples were wondering the same thing. But see, friends, the thing about this is the resurrection wasn't not the ending of the story. It was just the beginning of the mission, of our mission, of everybody's mission. And after Jesus arose, I can really only imagine uh, I can imagine the confusion and the chaos that's going on in the streets of Jerusalem that day. I can imagine that he said, she said uh stuff that's being told and hollered and talked about. I can imagine. You know this day and time how chaos and and confusion does people, so we can imagine then. And the thing is, is after Jesus rose, the disciples were in hiding. You know, they were John verse 20, John chapter 19, chapter 20, verse 19 says, and that same day at evening, beginning the first day of the week, when the doors were shut, where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews. Fear of the Jews, I'm sure they were probably wondering, wow, what's going on? What is happening here? What are we supposed to be scared now? Are they coming for us? They, you know, they had walked and talked and and and been with him for the last three and a half years of his ministry, and they knew that they were associated with him. So now they were hiding and they were they were afraid of the Jews. And I'm sure they were unsure about what was going to happen next. But see, the tomb was empty, but their hearts was still uh full of worry. Their hearts was still full. And sometimes, my friends, today I will I'm gonna explain some things in the Bible and some things on this walk that we're getting ready to go through. And it it still pertains to us today. It's still things today still uh pertains to us, the stuff that's going on here. And you'll see, I'm hoping you'll see anyway, but but that's how it is for us today, friends. We Jesus was already there and already done the miracle, but there's times we're still sitting around and unsure and fear and hiding. Right? But sometimes we still sit around and we're still sitting in fear, even though he's already came and he's already answered our prayers and he's already done the things that you know that we've asked him to do. But see, uh, after his resurrection, Jesus didn't just sit down somewhere, he didn't go somewhere in hiding, he was on the move. And so the move, one of the one of the journeys that he took, we're gonna roll we're gonna walk down a road called to a road called Emmaus. It's it's it's this place called Emmaus. Hope I'm saying that right. Uh, and the Bible says, uh, and verse 24 of Luke, chapter 24 of Luke, verse 13 says, and behold, two of them went to the same village, same day, at a village called Emmaus, which from Jerusalem about three score furlongs. I have no idea how that is. Um, maybe six or seven miles, I don't know. And the Bible says they walked together and they talked together of the things which had happened, you know, uh, and they didn't recognize Jesus. You know, he he comes walking up and a stranger comes walking up and and they didn't recognize that it was Jesus. The Bible says their eyes were holding that they should not know him. And he walked with these two these two men, uh, and he walked with them on the road, and they didn't even know him, they didn't recognize him. And sometimes, friends, again, one of the things that I want to point out is that's sometimes that's how it is with us today. We don't recognize his working, we don't recognize what he's doing in our lives. Maybe we don't see the big picture yet, but he's still walking and talking beside us everywhere we go, encouraging us. You know, and whatever we if you're going through struggles today, just know that he's there, right? But so they were walking and talking with each other, and and um the Bible says, and they were uh uh said and they walked and they talked together the things which had happened. And it says, and it came to pass that while they communed together a r a and reasoned with themselves, Jesus himself drew near, and their eyes was holding they didn't know him. And he asked them, you know, he's like, What are y'all talking about? And I'm paraphrasing the Lord, of course. He's like, Hey, what are y'all talking about? You know, what Jesus saw their pain because he says to them in verse 17, he says, What manner of communication are these that ye have one to another as ye walk and are sad? So he's seen these two guys were sad, and he asked them, Hey, well, you know, what are you talking about? Uh and friends, you know, sometimes that's how again it is with us. We Jesus knew their knew their sadness, and he asked him, What are you talking about? He saw their pain, and he knew uh Jesus, he knew what was going on in their hearts. He just wanted to hear them say it. And that's how he is with us today. He knows our needs, he knows our our our our desires and what we need, and he gives us what we need. But one of the guys says, and the word of God says his name was Cleopa, C O E O P A S, and I hope I'm spelling that, I'm saying that right. So it said this man was saying, you know, what, are you a stranger here? You know, you have you not heard about the things that's happening? Now here this poor guy is, he is addressing the resurrected Lord and didn't even know it. I mean, you know, can you imagine how he felt when he found out who it was? Right? And they said, you know, what what so they're walking with Jesus and and and he's telling them, Hey, you know what, what are y'all talking about? Tell me about these things. And they're like, Have you not heard about the things that's happened? And Jesus said, What things? You know, he says, Fill me in on this stuff, right? And they tell him about the things concerning Jesus of Nazareth. He says, and their exact words was uh Is it said unto him and he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty indeed and word before God and all the people, and about how the chief priests and their and our rulers had delivered him to be condemned to death and to be crucified. They said, But we trusted that it had been he that which would have had redeemed Israel. See, they thought all along, like all the other people in Jerusalem, that Jesus was coming in on a big old warrior horse with an army, and he was just going to, you know, overthrow Rome and take the throne and save everybody. And see, that's not what he was there for. And they trusted, they said, Hey, we trusted him. We thought that this was going to be him that was going to come and redeem Jerusalem. And he told and they told Jesus about the woman, you know, the women who had gone to the to the sepulchre, and they weren't, and he was gone, and they found they didn't find the body, and uh, and so they really thought that this that Jesus was going to be the one, and they were really disappointed and really upset, and when they left uh when they left Jerusalem, they were walking back to Emmaus. These two disciples were walking away from Jerusalem, and they had believed that Jesus was the very one, and they trusted him and they followed him, but now they were leaving disappointed and confused. They were walking away from the place where the miracle had already happened. They just didn't know. You know, they had heard all the stuff, I'm sure, but they were going home. They were going back to their old life, you know. They were going back home. And these two guys were just ordinary men. Now we don't know one of them's name. One of them they said his name was Cleophys. The other one we didn't never mention, and we're never probably, I don't think it ever even mentions either one of them again, for sure. Um, but anyway, Luke tells us that they were talking together and reasoning, trying to understand what had happened. And see, they loved Jesus, but they just didn't understand what God was doing, you know. Uh and and and they didn't for sure they didn't know who Jesus was with them. And that's one of the things is, you know, they walked and talked with him and they didn't know him. And that's how it is for us sometimes. We we know Jesus is working in our lives, even even when we don't even see it, he's working in our lives. And my friends, today somebody needs to hear this. Jesus is closer than you think. He's there, and he's closer than you think. And so, uh they love Jesus, but they didn't understand what God was doing, they didn't understand the plan. You see, and that's how it is with with our faith. Our faith doesn't always remove questions that we have. We have we can have all the faith in the world, but we still, because we are human beings and we're not perfect, we're flesh and bone, we're gonna have questions. And faith doesn't remove our questions. Uh but faith keeps us walking, and that's what we have to think about, you know. And one of the good things about this story is, you know, Jesus didn't wait for the disciples to find him, he went looking for them. See, they were walking away from Jerusalem, but Jesus was walking toward them. And sometimes we think that maybe we've drifted too far, uh, that we're walking away from Jesus and drifting, but he but he still walks beside us everywhere we go. No matter what direction we walk in, no matter what turn we take, he's right there. You know. And Jesus was right there with them, but they couldn't they didn't know him yet. And sometimes again, that relates to us because sometimes God is working behind the scenes in our life before we even understand what he's doing. But my friends today, trust me on this. Just because we can't see him doesn't mean that he's not working. It doesn't mean that he's not there, because he is. Right. So then we get to the part in this story where, you know, they they they these people are they're really they have unbelief, and and and Jesus, Luke 24, 25 through 27, chapter 24, verses 25 through 27, Jesus opens up the scriptures to these guys, and he tells them, you know, he rebukes them for their unbelief, and he explains that his suffering was necessary, according to scripture, all through scripture. Jesus even calls them foolish and slow at heart because they failed to believe that what the prophets had spoken about him. You know, he explains that his suffering was not a failure, it was according to God's plan. And that's what he's trying to get them to understand. You know. Jesus used the word, he used a scripture. He went back all the way back through uh through it says the the the Moses and all the way back in says in the beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them all the scripture, the things concerning himself. So he explained, and I don't know, the Bible doesn't tell us how long of a sermon that was. The Bible doesn't tell us that. But if he went all the way back through all the Old Testament brothers and sisters, he it had to be a pretty long conversation, don't you think? It had to be. Because that means that's a lot of reading to go back through and a lot of explaining, and that's what he was doing. He he used the word of God to heal their confusion. That's what he used. And these people, these two men had no idea. He had no idea that the resurrected word was explained in the written word to them. They had no idea. The Messiah is quoting the very verses that reveal him as the Messiah, and they have no idea about it. I mean, wow. Wow, that's awesome. And in in Luke, verses, in Luke chapter 24, verse 27, Jesus interpreted to himself, he shows himself how all the old scriptures are all about him. He shows himself in all of these scriptures. In other words, from all the books of scripture, Jesus explained how they all applied to him, how it all boiled down to the Messiah and the coming Savior. And so after he gave his sermon to these guys, uh they had reached a village, and the Bible says, and they drew near unto the village whither they went, and he made as though he was going to go further. He he made them think he was going to go further, but they the Bible says they constrained him and they they asked him to abide with us for it's toward evening, and the day is far spent, and so they wanted him to abide with them and stay with them for the night. And so he did. And and the Bible says, and it came to pass, as he set up meat with them, he took bread and he blessed it and broke it and gave it to them. Now, you know, customary back then, it was customary for the man of the house to take the bread and break break the bla the bread and to hand it out and bless it. But Jesus took it upon himself to do this, and he broke the bread and he took it and he blessed it, and he broke it and gave it out. And the Bible says, and their eyes was opened and they knew him. And the Bible says he vanished out of their sight. The word of God tells us that he gave them this bread and he broke it, and as soon as they ate it, their eyes were opened, and they knew him. Their eyes was opened and they recognized him, and then the Lord vanished. Now listen at what they say in verse 32. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us, by the way, and while he opened us to scripture. See, he opened them up to the scripture, you know. He he wanted them to know exactly what what it meant. This same scripture, those two disciples, their encounter with Jesus Christ that day moved them from doubt to faith. And see, they understood that the the entire law and the prophets pointed to his his suffering and his death and his resurrection. Everything that they had said and the law and the prophets, everything that they had said, it all pointed to this minute right here when he resurrected. And you see, they were running away in sadness. But they met Jesus right where they were. And somebody needs to get that today, you know. After they realized it was Jesus, their heart burned within them, and they immediately the boss says they immediately turn returned to Jerusalem. They rose that same hour, returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven, of course, guarded together, gathered together. They found the eleven. Uh and they were telling to me, and they start telling the men, you know, that Jesus had risen and and that he had appeared to Simon. And then they were they were told the things of what they had done in their that day, and how uh no uh him breaking the bread, and they they sit there and they all communed, and you know, uh friends, they were going in the wrong direction, these two men. They were leaving Jerusalem and going in the wrong direction. But you know what? They met Jesus. They had lost hope, they were confused, they were wondering what's gonna happen, why did all this happen? Why uh, you know, they had all this confusion and all these doubts. But when they realized that it was Jesus and he had used the word to heal them of all their confusion and their doubt, then they were ready. They immediately returned to Jerusalem. They were ready to share the word. They were going in the wrong direction, but they met Jesus. And friends, today I want you to take a long look at yourself and ask you what road are you on today? Because you can meet Jesus Christ. Because you know what? Let me tell you something. Jesus knows where you are, he knows what road you're on, he knows where you're traveling, he knows where you are geographically, spiritually, emotionally. He knows what path you're on. And he's always right there and willing and able to help you through any confusion, any doubt, anything that you have. If you're without hope today, my thing to you and my advice to you is go to the word of God, get into the scriptures just like he used on these guys. Get into the scriptures and open your mind and your heart to the word of God. See, these two guys' eyes, they were opened because they got the scripture, their heart burned with scripture. And the Bible tells us they rose that same day, they returned to Jerusalem. They couldn't wait to get out there and tell the others the good news about the risen Christ. They couldn't wait. I wouldn't be able to wait either, man. I would I'd be itching to tell somebody on that road. You know what I'm saying? I'd be itching to run into somebody. But see, Jesus encouraged them. He opened their minds and he opened their mouths, and they were ready to speak the good news of the resurrection. Now, friends, what a encounter with Jesus Christ did for these guys. It changed their direction. And I'm gonna tell you what, almost ten years ago, an encounter with Jesus Christ changed my direction too, brothers and sisters. Changed my direction too. And friends, let me tell you something. That's exactly what the resurrection still does today. It changes our directions, it changes our hope. You know? And and and the Bible goes on to tell us that when these men arrived back in Jerusalem, they found all the others gathered together, and the Bible says something very, very wonderful happened that day, right there, that very minute. The Bible said Jesus come and stood in the midst of them. And this is what he said. He said, he just simply said, Peace be unto you. And see, before he gave them instructions, before he told them anything to do, he gave them peace. Before he sent them forward out into this crazy world, he gave them peace. And my friends, today, if you are someone who needs that same peace right now, if you need that same peace, uh that the same Jesus Christ who walked in with the disciples that day on the road to the Mayas, he is the same Jesus who walks into rooms of fear today. He walks into rooms of doubt, to rooms of worry. He walks into all of them rooms with you today. And he is still speaking that very same thing to each and every one of us today. Peace be unto you. And see, after he appeared to him and he gave him he gave him his peace and he spoke his peace, he didn't, he didn't stop there. He didn't stop there. He had something for them. See, the resurrection wasn't just something for us to celebrate. It was something for us to carry. It was something for them to carry. He started with them. And if you look over in the book of Matthew, Jesus spoke these powerful words that day. He says, Go ye therefore and teach all nations. Amen. And those words weren't just for the disciples in that room that day. Those words are still speaking to us today. After the resurrection, friends, we go ye therefore and we teach all nations. After the resurrection, Jesus gave his followers a mission. He called them to go, he called them to tell. And that mission has never changed. Because that empty tomb was never meant to be kept a secret. No. It was meant to be shared with the whole world. And sometimes I know we think that, and a lot of people get this in their head that maybe we have to be preachers or teachers or even missionaries in faraway places to be able to be to be put be a part of God's plan. But the truth is, everybody people, the truth is today every believer has a testimony. Every believer has a story. Trust me. Because after the resurrection, the disciples were no longer just his followers. They became his witnesses. Because he said, Go ye therefore and teach all nations. And my friends, today we have that same calling on us today. And maybe your mission is to just. Encourage someone who maybe feels forgetting, forgotten. Maybe your mission is just to pray with someone who feels alone. Maybe your mission is simply just to tell someone that Jesus is alive and working. Maybe it's just to say on the street corner, Jesus loves you. You know? Maybe your mission is just to hand out little Jesuses and say, like I do, everybody needs a little Jesus. Friends, you don't have to stand behind a pulpit to share the good news of God. You just have to be willing to say yes when God opens that door. Because the resurrection changed the disciples from people who were hiding behind closed doors, who were afraid, who were wondering and confused and in doubt and wondering where that what their next step was going to be. It turned them into people who were willing to walk into the world with courage and faith. Is it scary? Yes, you better believe it is. But like he said, he'll never leave us and he'll never forsake us. And just like he gave his disciples peace and purpose, he'll give us the same thing. But the one promise he knew we couldn't do it on our own. And so before he sent them, and even even one of us, before he sends us out into that dark world, he gives us a promise. And that promise is in the book of Acts. Jesus said, Ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you. Then you'll become a witness for him. And there's where your power. You see, friends, he never he never asked us to walk in his purpose without giving us his power. Now the disciples were ordinary people just like me and you. They were ordinary men just like us. And just like us, they had fear and they had questions. But when the power of God came into their lives, everything changed. And their fear turned to courage. And their silence turned into boldness. And their uncertainty turned into faith. And that same promise of power that was given to them again is still available to each and every one of us today. Friends, when we feel weak, he gives us courage. And we're when we're unsure of what direction to go, he will give you direction. And when we don't know what to say, he'll give us those words. And if you're someone listening today, and you feel like maybe you're not strong enough, maybe you're not ready enough or not qualified enough to step forward in faith, please know, friends, that God never calls perfect people. He calls willing people. And he fills willing people with his power. Amen. No, the resurrection wasn't the end of the story, it was the beginning of a life filled with purpose, with peace, and with power. And that same life is still available this very day and every day to every believer. So, what do we do after the resurrection? My friends, we walk with him. We receive his power, we accept his purpose for our life, and we live in his power, and we accept his peace. We get up, we open the door, we smile, and we spread the good news. Before I close today, I want to speak to someone that needs to hear this. I know there's someone out there that needs to hear this right now. Maybe you're walking away and running away in the other direction just like the guys were running from Emmaus. Maybe you're unsure about your purpose, or maybe you're wondering if God can still use your life. Friends, please know today that He is still walking beside you every step of the way. He gave you purpose and he gave you power every day. We don't have to have all the answers. We don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to be willing to take a step toward him. He will guide you, he will strengthen you, he will fill your life with his peace, his purpose, and his power. So, friends, today, don't just remember the resurrection. Live in it. Brothers and sisters, don't just remember it. Live in it. Don't ever forget Jesus Christ gave his life on the cross for each and every one of us. And he's out there today and he's leading and guiding us every direction, every step that we take, he's leading and he's guiding us. And he said he'll never leave us, he said he'll never forsake us. He we can just imagine the things that come upon our life when we do turn our life over to him and trust him and step out with faith. Is it is it scary? Yes, it is. I know I've been in battle, trust me. I've been in battle mentally, physically, spiritually, have not got mentally yet, but I'm telling you, it didn't take much more, you know. But it he's right there. Every single step of the way. Don't just remember the resurrection. Live in it. Live in it and go ye therefore, and teach all nations and step out like he tells us. Now though I hope this has blessed you as much as it's blessed me to bring it to you. Um I hope and pray. I am gonna close with a prayer. I so appreciate you listening. I appreciate every single body that's that's that's listening to this, and I I'm gonna close with a prayer now. Our Father God in heaven, I thank you, Lord, for this opportunity to bring the word of God. I thank you for this opportunity to tell somebody, to open up your eyes and your heart, to get in the word and to listen and to give it all to you. I hope and pray that everybody just takes this in their heart and understands what the resurrection is and what it's all about. And that it wasn't just a story. It wasn't just a story to tell, it's true life. And I ask you to please let this word, let these words go to the heart of the people that need to hear it. Let them open up their hearts and their minds and receive these words. Lord, we praise you and we honor you. We thank you for each and every step that we take. We thank you for the step that you take with us down into our confusion and our doubt. We thank you for every step, Lord, that you take with us and get us out of that. We thank you. We praise you and we honor you this morning and every day. We thank you for everything. We ask you to go with us and lead us and guide each and everybody listening today. I ask you, Lord, to go with them and lead them and guide them. For us, these and all things in Jesus' holy name. Amen. God bless everybody. Hopefully, see you next week.
